The playground in Utah…

Hello! Welcome to my blog. In this blog I will talk about some National parks in Utah.

Southern Utah University has been voted “University of The Parks” for two years in a row. Our backyard has five national parks in it. I am going to a bit about them with you.

Located in Moab, Utah, it is famed for Delicate Arch as shown in the photo. The park had 1,399,247 visitors in 2015 and maintains a pretty steady average. The park has 2,000 natural sandstone arches.

Located between Garfield & Kane counties lies Bryce Canyon National Park. In 2015, they had 1,745,804 visitors. Bryce Canyon is famous for their geological structures known as hoodoo’s. A hoodoo is a column of weathered rock.

Canyonlands

About 40 minutes from Arches in Moab, is Canyonlands. Spread between San Juan, Wayne, Garfield and Grand Counties. Canyonlands is not as popular as the others, with an annual 634,607 visitors. It is known for countless Canyons, Mesas and Butte’s. The most famous being Mesa Arch.

Capitol Reef

Located between Wayne, Garfield, Sevier and Emery Countries. Similar to Canyonlands, their annual average is 786, 514. They are famous for colorful canyons, ridges, buttes and monoliths. A monolith is a large upright block of stone

Zion is one of the most famous National Parks in the country. It is located in Washington, Kane and Iron Counties. Its annual visitation is almost 4,000,000. It is famous for its unique geography and biodiversity. It’s hike called “Angels Landing” is perhaps most famous. Zion houses a bunch of different hikes of varying difficulty.

If you go to Zion some hikes I would recommend are: Angels landing (Hard), Hidden Canyon (Medium), Observation Point (Hard), Weeping Rock (Easy) and Emerald Pools (Easy).

Utah is a great place for natural beauty. If you are outdoorsy, Utah will be your playground.
